The idea for a sports club in Sellindge was conceived in 1967 and the Sellindge & District Playing Fields Benevolent Society was formed and registered as a charity. The 7 acre site is leased from a charitable trust [details of the trust can be found here]
The Sports & Social Club, including the Bowls Club, were financed by fundraising, contributions and grants. The Sports and Social Club was officially opened by Henry Cooper in 1972 [pamphlet for the opening day can be found here]
The current clubhouse was erected following the hurricane in 1987 and the ditches were replace in 2015 using a grant from Sport England
